Crystal glazes are very difficult to work with and require a completely different firing cycle than normal glazes. While all glazes crystallize in the firing process, this particular formula visually recreates the process of crystals growing within the Earth. Historically this form was used as a watering vessel with the lugs placed to allow for ease while pouring and storing the vessel. It was fired in a reduction atmosphere, creating the most variation in the surface. The teapot is entirely hand-built. All pieces were fired in the reduction kiln and placed in a variety of spots to attain a multitude of varied surfaces.
